We started with a simple belief: mushrooms deserve better

Born from a love of food and science, MYCOfactor grew out of one of Australia’s leading mushroom farms.

Launched in early 2024 after years of learning, experimenting, and growing, our mission is simple: to craft potent, clean, and trustworthy mushroom extracts, and to share the science behind why they truly matter.

The Broken Mushroom Market

The truth is, most mushroom products on the shelves today are failing consumers. Too many rely on imports with heavy metal or chemical contamination, and many companies use shortcuts in their extraction methods that waste mushrooms, destroy fragile compounds, and leave customers with weak or ineffective products. Claims like kilos of mushrooms to make a few grams of powder sound impressive but actually reveal poor knowledge and poor practice.

We knew mushrooms deserved better. So we fixed those problems in our operations from the ground up:

We are proud to be the first in the world to quantify and optimise the active compounds in mushroom extracts. Working with the Queensland Brain Institute at the University of Queensland, leaders in groundbreaking lion’s mane research, we developed a process that measures exactly what matters.
Lion’s mane is one of the most popular mushrooms for its cognitive benefits, but also one of the most difficult to extract properly. By applying our new proprietary extraction method, we were able to precisely quantify the amount of the active compound that makes lion’s mane effective.
For the first time, customers can take a mushroom product that doesn’t just claim to work butshows exactly how much of the right compound it contains.

A Message From Our Founder
I’ve always loved food and science in equal measure to me, after all cooking is just science you can eat. After earning a Bachelor of Science at University of California San Diego and a Master’s in Molecular Genetics at University of New South Wales, I thought Ihad it all figured out. The plan was a big lab job, cutting-edge research, the whole deal. But the reality? It was repetitive, rigid, and left me feeling like a tiny cog in a very big, noisy machine.
I went back to what sustained me through my studies: hospitality. COVID happened, and I moved into fruit and veg distribution, where I started noticing something strange: almost no-one was growing mushrooms here in Australia. And so of course I decided to start a farm, because why not?
That journey taught me something huge: science doesn’t just live in labs. It lives in the soil, in the way we grow food, and in the way we share it. MYCOfactor is my way of pulling all those threads together. It is my way of making a difference by bringing together proven science and the natural power of mushrooms to create products people can genuinely rely on.
